Founder and Executive Director
Michael Morris has had a career in the music industry for 40 years as a professional classical singer, director, conductor, teacher, and entrepreneur. Michael has not only performed extensively in opera, musical theater, and concert work, he has been on the music faculty of five colleges and universities where he has served at the Director of Choral Activities, the Voice Department Head, Lecturer, Private Voice Teacher, and the Director of the Opera Workshop. Michael has been the Director of Music at four large churches where he had oversight of the budgets, scheduling, repertoire, development, fundraising, and management. He has served as the Director of Music and Conductor for Los Altos Conservatory Theater and for Lyric Theatre of San Jose. In 1976 Michael founded his private voice studio, Michael Morris Studio, LLC.
Michael has always balanced the creative and performance aspects of music with the business aspects of music. His perspective is that music should be developed and managed as a business. Michael has a passion for helping not only the music industry develop fundraising opportunities, management, and oversight skills, but the overall visual and fine art communities as well.
Orchard Valley Fine Arts Foundation was created in February, 2007. The concept came to Michael while he was performing at an event in Central Park in Santa Clara, CA. He had been considering ways to fundraise for both the fine and performing arts in one event. While performing in this beautiful park setting, Michael had the idea of a walk-a-thon for the arts. And so, in one stroke of inspiration, Michael created both Arts Walk Santa Clara to raise much needed funding for the arts; and Orchard Valley Fine Arts Foundation, Inc. to serve as the non-profit organization that develops, manages, and hosts AWSC. Since Michael's initial brainstorm, OVFAF has grown to serve and assist other fine and performing arts organizations and artists.
